What is EN ISO 20471?
EN ISO 20471 is the European standard for high-visibility clothing, designed to ensure wearers are clearly seen in high-risk environments. It specifies the requirements for fluorescent background and retro-reflective materials, typically used in roadwork, construction, and emergency rescue.
What is Class 3?
Class 3 under EN ISO 20471 represents the highest level of visibility. It is required in the most hazardous work environments. To meet Class 3:
- Fluorescent background material must be ≥ 0.80 m²
- Reflective material must be ≥ 0.20 m²
The garment must cover the torso and include long sleeves or trousers with reflective tape, ensuring 360° visibility day and night.
Where is Class 3 Required?Class 3 high-visibility clothing is required in:
- Highway work zones (traffic speed over 50 km/h)
- Emergency response and traffic police
- Airport ground and freight staff
- Night work or poor visibility construction sites
